Conflict--Every book has some sort of conflict that pulls the reader in and keeps the reader reading. Conflict can be person vs. person, person vs. nature, person vs. self, person vs. society, or person vs. the supernatural. Identify the primary conflict in your novel. Who or what is involved with the main conflict? What is the conflict? How does your character handle himself/herself when faced with this conflict? How does this conflict add to the story line of your novel? How is the conflict resolved and what is the outcome?
I am reading Football Genius and the main conflict is person vs. society. The main character, Troy, has to push past everyone around him not believing in him. Troy has an incredible gift where he can watch a few plays of a football game and then tell what every play after that will be. Throughout the book Troy has to show everyone what he can do but no one believes in him. His own mother did not even believe in him. Troy didn't let this stop him. he kept trying even when no one believed in him and he finally got what he worked so hard to get. after being so persistent, Troy was able to show what he can do and now gets paid $10,000 per game to help out the Atlanta Falcons. The conflict is basically the whole story line. if there wasn't this conflict there wouldn't be this book. The whole book was about Troy rising above the people who didn't believe in him. This conflict kept the book going. It kept me wanting to read because I wanted to see if he could finally show his talent.
ReplyDeleteI feel like a lot of people can relate to this situation, and having trouble with no one believing in them. I'm glad your character kept going and pushing forward and got rewarded for it.
DeleteMy book main charter i feel is in very similar situation with every step taken there is another problem that arises in his way but both characters re very driven individuals that do not give up easy and will fight for what they want and wont back down.
DeleteBoi R book sounds pretty close to mine but my book has a person v person conflict
Deletefootball is a good sports and pay nice money
DeleteIn my book the main character also helps out an NFL team and must deal with the hate he gets for being so young and having a really good job.
DeleteIn my book night, i have seen how the Germans used fear to keep the Jews from wanting to escape. The conflict is like man vs society because it is the entire 3rd Reich against the minority. Elie and his father have to do as their told or suffer to death. Even against the odds they still have hope that they will be liberated by someone to resolve this conflict.
ReplyDeleteI agree that person vs society is a very big conflict in your book. It must have been difficult to keep going even though society (the Germans) kept pushing them down.
DeleteI have also read this novel, and it is a very good read. The way that the Jews in Night try to find it within themselves to hopefully survive another day is similar to my book. My novel, which is about the Vietnam War, is about soldiers trying to survive another day in a war-torn environment.
DeleteI would for sure agree with the man vs society conflict from perilously reading this book Elie is fighting for his life every step along the way and refuses to give up or show weakness t the Germans.
DeleteI agree with man vs society also and i read the book before the book i just finished. Yep its a sad book throughout the book.
DeleteI also read Night, but I put person v person because its Eliezar going against the Nazi soldies in the camps for his struggle of survival. So i guess it could be both Person v Person and Person v Society.
Deletei read that book before and you are 100% right about that, in my book the main character fears that his friend will die before he gets to see the team make the playoffs and it really controls him.
DeleteI read the book divergent my book is about person vs society. In my book the main character Tris is a divergent and in the society she lives in, divergents are a danger and they will be killed so she has to stay quiet and not show people who she really is. Divergents are people who belong to more than 1 faction and in her society you can only be in 1 faction and that's what you must always be so if you belong to more than 1 then you are counted as a divergent and will be killed if found. Tris handles herself very well throughout the book with the help of Four her trainer. He shows her that to not show that you are different you must act like dauntless would. She learns very quick and does a great job all the way up to the final test and she passed the test with the help of Four.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like Tris can fend for herself and she knows what to do. I hope you enjoyed this novel!
DeleteYour book sounds interesting. I also had a person vs society conflict in my book that I read. Hope you enjoyed reading your book!
DeleteThe movie is good and i bet the book is better and my book also has a person v society conflict.
DeleteI am reading night and the conflict in my book is person vs society. The reason why is because they have to fight to survive and it is Jews vs Germans. The primary conflict in this book is between him and his father. They have to help each other out but they also are trying to survive on their own. Elie and his father get split up from the rest of their family from the start so they know they will probably never get to see them again. Throughout the whole book Elie's father grow very weak. Elie would give up his ration of bread to get closer to his dad which could be good and bad. He needed to learn how to do things on his own but they had many people with them that helped them through. The Jews would stick together.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like the Jews don't stick together, even though if they would they would have a better chance at surviving. I loved this book and I hope you did too!
DeleteI have read the book night, and I have to say that Elie struggled more so throughout the novel because of his father. He always had to look after his father, as his father was a weak link. While Elie was always true to his father, many Jews in the novel did not always stay true to their family members. Truly sad novel....and, yet it was real.
DeleteI have read alot of books about the concentration camps but this book showed me the how much the jews have lost in the concentration camps. To me after loosing everything, as long as Elie had his father he still had the hope of being saved from the suffering of the germans.
DeleteThis is a good point but i think the main conflict is person vs. death. You do make a good point though. it is wrong what they did to these people.
DeleteI read the book Blacklist and the conflict in this book is person vs society. The reason why is because Aster is charged for murdering Madison Brooks even though Madison is actually still alive and is kidnapped. This Beverley Hills princess isn't equipped for jail and gets bailed out after a week, despite her parents wishes. Aster is bound and determined to find out what happened to Madison with the help of her friends and her kid brother, Javen. This conflict adds to the book because all of her friends know she didn't murder anyone but no one will believe her; causing her to be blacklisted and to lose her life. The conflict doesn't get resolved in this book; causing the readers to be left of the cliff until the next book.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds like something I should read. I had the same conflict in the book I read. Hope you enjoyed reading your book!
DeleteSounds good, my book also has a person v society conflict.
DeleteIt must be really difficult to be listed as a murderer even though he did not do it. But he cant prove that madison is still alive and nothing else can change the peoples mind. hopefully that will change in the next book.
Deleteit sounds like a really good book to read in the future.
DeleteThis book sounds really intriguing. It seems like a really good book that I might have to look into. I hope you enjoyed reading it!
DeleteThis book seems like an interesting read. I might have to look into this book. Hope you enjoyed your novel!
DeleteThis sounds like a really good book! The conflict and story line really intrigue me. This sounds likes a book I should add to my list.
DeleteCliffhangers at the end of a book frustrate me, but this book seems too interesting to skip over. I may have to read it soon. I hope you enjoyed the book!
DeleteIn my book, Everything Everything, there are multiple conflicts. The main conflict, in my opinion, is between Maddy and nature. I believe this because the biggest thing in Maddy's way is her sickness, which is referred to as SCID. With this illness, Maddy is allergy to practically everything, especially things dealing with nature. Maddy has learned to deal with this though, and instead lives her life stuck inside a decontaminated house. This conflict controls basically the whole novel. It controls Maddy's life, her relationships, and her education. The conflict is resolved when Maddy finds out she never even had the illness. She lived through this battle between her and the outside world her whole life and it was never an actual problem. Then she goes on to live her life and live outside of her decontaminated home. The battle was kind of pointless, but without it, the story would have been completely different.
ReplyDeletethis sounds like a really good book
DeleteI loved this book when I read it. I have always wondered what it is like to not be able to go anywhere. I'm not sure what I would do if I was faced with this conflict.
DeleteI would be very frustrated if i was your main character because she had been lied to by her parents her whole life. the novel does seem very interesting but i feel very sorry for this girl.
DeleteI am reading the book The Things They Carried, and I would say this book has a person vs. self type of conflict. The author, Tim O'Brien, tells of his time before, during and after Vietnam. This book is compiled of many stories throughout his life and the lives of others who have touched his life, especially the soldiers that were in his unit. The conflict throughout the novel is how the author, and some of the other soldiers in his unit, dealt with the realities of war and how they learned to live with all that they endured. Every soldier has his own story, his own things that he carries that are important to him, his own memories....his own tragedies. The author maintains stability when dealing with the war until he is shot and then transferred away from his original unit. From there, he becomes deeply bitter toward the medic who cared for him out in the field. The medic was new and inexperienced. The author had much trouble healing and all of that contributed toward his bitterness. It altered his personality and made him vengeful. Eventually, the author and the medic cross paths when his old unit comes in from the field. O'Brien plays a trick on Jorgensen, the medic, and they soon make peace with each other. O'Brien moved on from his bitterness and, once again, was his old self.
ReplyDeleteYour book sounds very interesting. I hope you are enjoying it.
DeleteI am reading the book “If Youre Reading This” by Trent Reedy. The major conflict in the book is character against society. In the book the main character Mike is faced with a different problem at every corner every time things are going smooth or so he thinks something else comes up causing problems. The biggest conflict for Mike is his desire to play football ad mom being so anti football and over protective. She is stuck in the past and mike is growing up and trying to move on and use his father's death as fuel to keep going in life. He forces his mom signatures on the waiver and so he can play and keeps it a secret for multiple weeks. How evenly is able to talk to his mom and gets her to move out of the past and talk to him about his dad. Mike handles him self very sting and mature for his age being 16 and losing his father at 8 years old. This conflict aids to to the story line by shaping the whole book and how he makes almost all his decision and action and what he whole book is based off of if there was no need to play football there would be n book in my opinion. The conflict is resolved by Mike getting letters from his before he decided that a mystery mailer sends him with in my opinion some of the best life advice anyone could ask for and the letters help Mike get the courage to talk to his mom and work threw the past.
ReplyDeleteMike sounds like a very strong kid that knows what he wants. I am glad that Mike does not allow anyone to stop him from doing what he loves. This sounds like a very good book.
Deletesounds like your book has a very good story line behind it and that it would be a very good one to read
Deletesounds like a decent book sounds like mike has it rough
DeleteMy book would be Person vs Nature. Mowgli the boy is getting hunted by Sheer Khan the tiger. The conflict is that Sheer Khan wants Mowgli dead, because he hates men but no other animal feels the same. Mowgli handles himself by not being afraid of Sheer Khan like every other animal in the jungle. Also he learns a lot of information on how to survive and the rules of the jungle by Bagheera and Baloo. It adds to the story line, because Sheer Khan is the bad guy in the book and without him being the one who wants to kill Mowgli the book would just be boring. It is resolved by Mowgli puts his tail on fire and never returns.
ReplyDeleteBoi hunda banz sounds like an interesting conflict, seems like the the storyline keeps the reader focused and wanting to keep reading.
Deleteyour book is similar to mine because of it being person vs nature but we both have a completely different story line
DeleteMatthew Vorwald here. I agree. Without Sheer Khan being in the book, it would get boring really quick.

ReplyDeleteIn the book night the main conflict is all the Jews are being kept in concentration camps and are ether being worked to death or being cooked in the ovens. Ellie handles it better then i think most people could. He gets scared but for them most part he keeps himself together. The conflict adds to the story mostly because without the conflict there wouldn't be any story. The conflict is resolved by the Germans loosing the war.
Your book sounds good, But i don't think i would want to read this book because its just people killing jew for no reason.
DeleteMatthew Vorwald here. I agree. The conflict of the book adds a lot to the story. And it's a good thing that the conflict is resolved by the Nazis loosing.
Deletethis is a great book but I don't think the concentration camps is the main conflict. Death is.
DeleteI also think the conflict adds to the story. It tells you what actually happened in the concentration camps and on the way to the camps compared to what you learn in history class.
DeleteI am reading two minute drill and the conflict in the novel is person vs person. The main conflict so far is that Scott was the new kid and wants to be be the star at football like Chris. Chris is the guy that everybody wants to be. So Scott became to be good friends with Chris and Chris was the first friend that Scott had when he first moved here. But the problem with Scott going out for football and not being very good at it made him very easy to pick on. Jimmy is the bully of the school and on the football team so Scott has alot of conflicts with him. The thing that bothers me is the fact that Scott is minding his own business trying to get better at the sport of football, learning off of Chris but he really never can because hes always getting put down by Jimmy. Making him play like crap because hes so nervous around Jimmy making him have alot of anxiety.
ReplyDeleteNice P sounds like a good book. Scott seems like a real wanna be. Jimmy seems like he needs to get beat up so maybe Scott will get him the beans
DeleteIt must be tough for Scott always being put down and bullied. I couldn't imagine being the new kid. I am glad he still doesn't let these things stop him from playing the game that he loves.
Deletei am reading hideout and i say that there is person v person and some person v nature conflict going on because they are out in the swamp exploring and they run into problems both with the swamp itself and between each other because they disagree on what they should do or where the should go Sam and Davey are most of the person v person conflict because they can never agree on the choices they have to make to get through the swamp or what they should do if someone shows up at their secret cabin. i say sam handles the conflicts pretty well because he always finds a way to work things out and to completely resolve everything nicely. the conflict i this book could not only cause them to go to jail if they dont make the right choice but it could mean their life to because they could get lost in the swamp unable to make it out.
ReplyDeletesounds like an intresting book and like somthing i could read and enjoy.
DeleteI think I have read this book before and I agree 100% It is a book with multiple conflicts.
DeleteThat book sounds really good and I like how it has multiple conflicts.
DeleteThis book sounds really good.
DeleteThe book i am reading " The crossover" by Kwame Alexander. Its about a boy named Josh bell who wants to be the greatest basketball player ever. the main conflict is for josh to be better than everyone else and the team to be better than every other one. Josh doesn't like when other players to score over 20 points like he does every game, like one game when his twin brother Jordan bell scored like 30 points he grabbed the ball and threw it a him n the game. Josh doesn't like when the crowd is scream anyone else name but his.
ReplyDeletemy book can relate to this because mike wants to be a great football player and do whatever it takes to win even if that means cheating.
Deletei am reading the book the mammy by Brendan o carroll. this book is about a recent widow that has to try and support seven kids through the great depression. This being the case the book has a large varity of conflict. the first source of conflict is person vs society, the main charchter anges is pretty much broke and has seven little mouths to feed. angs has a hard time colecting wellfare to suport her family. The second point of conflict is person vs nature, anges makes her money at the locall farmers market but she cant particapate because nothing is growing because of the weather.
ReplyDeleteI am reading The Hate U give and the biggest conflict in this book is person vs society. Starr is the only witness to one of her best friends murder. He was a teenage black kid and so is Starr and he was unarmed and shot by a white cop. Starr is Kahlids voice because he is dead. Her town is outraged and riots break out everywhere. Starr is battling her all white school and her black town her two worlds keep clashing. Though out the whole book Starr struggles to keep her worlds separate. She is fighting society while she tries to make the best choice for herself and Khalid.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds very interesting. I agree that it seems like a person vs. society conflict due to Starr having to battle to keep her two worlds from clashing together.
DeleteI feel so bad for Starr because everything she does is under a microscope, some people hate her for not standing up and others hate her for standing up. She can never win no matter what she tries. I just hope everything turns out the best for Starr.
DeleteMy book has characters who are immigrants and also struggle between their two worlds.
DeleteMatthew Vorwald here and the book that I chose was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The main conflict of the story is that Indiana Jones has to stop the Nazis from getting the Holy Grail because if they get it, they'll be more powerful. It's a person vs person conflict. All the people involved in the novel, as well as in the movie, are Indy, his father Henry Jones Senior, Marcus Brody and Sallah, Indy's friends, and the Nazis. Indy has a difficult time getting a grip on the conflict because his father keeps talking down to him and calling him junior. At the end, the Nazis fail to get the Grail, Indy and his friends and his father stop them and Indy and his friends and his father escape.
ReplyDeleteI think that you like Indiana Jones a lot and it talk about Nazi nice
Deletethe book sounds a lot like the movie and if that the case it must be an amazing book about person vs person.
DeleteI read the book Night. The conflict in this book is the holocaust and the Germans keeping Jews hostage like animals. The author Elie is held in concentration camps with his father along with thousands of other Jews and innocent people being tortured and killed. Elie goes through many challenges and hardships and watching hundreds of people dying during his time under German control. During this time, he becomes like a walking corpse. He doesn't want to live anymore and he isn't living anymore, he is just trying to survive for his father. He handles this situation pretty well considering what he went through. He tries his hardest not to become violent and selfish in the camp like many of the other Jews. The book revolves around the main conflict. The conflict is resolved at the end of the book when the US freed the Jews and ended the holocaust.
ReplyDeleteThe conflict of this book is a very big picture one and hard to single out just one. I hope you enjoyed reading Night as much as I did.
DeleteI am reading Ghost hawk the main conflict s to find who killed the all the wolf and why so they at a snowy forest and john have to build they friendship a native american so they main goal is to find out the mystery about the wolves so a lot of enemy. Are trying to kill the wolves just to get they fur and use it to make clothes.
ReplyDeleteI read the book Note To Self and the biggest conflict is person vs self. This book is basically like a diary of the author where he shares his experiences and lessons in the world. The main conflict would have to be him dealing with his mental health. His struggle with the common illnesses of anxiety and depression make for important advice that he can give to his readers in his entries. I wouldn't say the conflict is exactly resolved, as he carries on with his life he may still struggle with these illnesses.
ReplyDeleteI think conflict's that are person vs. self are interesting books to read because you get to hear more of the real life experiences that are first hand and kind of get to walk through what they went through as you read. I hope you are enjoying your book so far.
Deletei feel like this book makes the main character first fight there self then love there self by making then learn what there self really offers.
DeleteIt's always interesting to read person vs self books. This sounds like a very interesting book, struggling with mental health problems and illnesses is never easy, its good that this book is shedding some light on the issue.
DeleteThat book sounds really interesting with that conflict. It's nice to see a book shining light on important issues and giving people who struggle some advice.
DeleteI am reading Red Kayak and the main conflict is person vs. self. The primary character in this novel is Brady Parks and he has a lot upon his shoulders weighing him down. Will he live with gilt knowing that he gave his friends Digger and J.T the idea to drill holes into the DiAngelo's kayak. Brady told his friends that he would keep it a secret but will he in the end? There are many other conflicts that go on bedsides the kayak incident in this novel.
ReplyDeleteThis Seems like a very interesting book Spencer.
DeleteI think that person vs. self is on the dime for what the conflict is, and I hope he tells some one about the holes in the kayak.
Deletein the book night through all the things he goes through his main conflict is death. He has one goal in mind, Survive. All the beatings he takes are just little obstacles in his path. All the family he lost is just another obstacle, a big one in fact but he manages to keep going after loosing everything. He even lost his own image. the first time he saw himself in a mirror after the camps he described himself as a walking corpse. In the end he wins and survives but now he has no one and everyone he knew and loved was most likely dead.
ReplyDeletei agree night was a great book and very dark. i hope you enjoy the rest of it
DeleteI agree the book Night has a huge conflict going through out it during the whole story. I read it 3 weeks ago and i would have to say that it is the first book that comes to mind when i think of conflict.
Deletei agree night was a good book and holds a lot of dark secrets about how they were treated and how they were fed very little and worked hard all day long.
DeleteI also agree that night was a very good book and it really opened my eyes about how bad they were treated and how little they got in return for working all day long
Deletemine is person vs self, because Bridge is tearing herself up over her and Wil's break up with each other. She gets over it by telling Wil that she still likes him. It is also Person vs nature, because Wil's dad died a horrible death and everyone thinks that they could have helped in some sort of way. Its also person vs person, because Henny (Wil's Mom) and Wilson (His dad) get into multiple fights verbally, physically, and emotionally.
ReplyDeleteMy question to you is what is your book called? Just by what you have said here about this book it sounds like a very good read. This sounds like such an interesting book that i think i might want to look into it.
DeleteIt is called The End Of Our Stroy
Deletethe book sounds like a great book and I think I might have to invest some time in this book and read it.
DeleteI was in your group discussion and this sounds like a good read
DeleteI am reading Little Secrets and i think there is really two main conflicts in this book the first being person vs. person because Rose an Will have an interesting relationship where Rose thinks Will is the killer one moment then the next she is kissing him. On top of that every time they talk you can just feel the intensity between them and how they talk to each other. The other conflict is a person vs. society where Rose is working t find all the clues to a murder an some people in the town don't agree with hat she is doing and how she is going about it. I think in both of these conflicts Rose handles herself in two totally different ways one being well i don't care what you think about what i am doing and the other being hey i know what your up to and i have you figured out. This adds to the story because it brings up all lot of the other characters opinions. Both of these are kind of on going conflicts yet at the moment in the book so it will be interesting to see what is to come.
ReplyDeleteYour book sounds interesting, the whole murder part has me interested into what ever happens.
DeleteI am reading Ghost and the conflict in my book is person vs person. the first time he meet conflict at the beginning of the book when his dad almost shoot him and his mother. then the conflict was him and a kid at his school then there was another one with a kid on his track team. im seeing all of these are the same by how they drive the main character to be better his dad made him a better person. the kid at school made him more responsible and the track guy made him a better runner.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a pretty interesting novel, I might have to pick it up sometime. But is the conflict resolved in the end of the book? Or you still reading the book?
Deletethis sounds really interesting and pretty action packed. i would love to hear how it ends and how the main character over comes all these conflicts
DeleteThis book sounds pretty interesting, based off the conflicts youve said i would really like to find out how the book ends and if everything gets resolved.
Deletemike has many conflict in his life. his dad is very hard on him and pushes him to be great if mike does not do well it upsets his dad. when he is playing football he isnt very strong so he decided to start taking steriods. now his body is changing and he is also cheating. he doesnt want to get caught and have his career over.
ReplyDeleteThat's really relatable because so many kids feel like they have to live up to the parents name and many kids probably do PEDs so they can be as good as they parents.
DeleteI think a lot of kids face the same pressure that Mike does and I think that would be really hard. From what you said I think Mike also faces person vs self because Im sure he had a hard time making the choice to take the steroids and Im sure he struggles to live with his choice every time he plays the game.
DeleteIn the book The way of the Reaper, The main character faces many conflicts. One that standed out to me is when he had to shoot a pregnant women because he was on a rooftop overlooking his squad when she came out with a suicide vest on. She was running right at them and when he took the shot she died and the vest exploded. After that he was really messed up, he couldn't believe what he did. He talked to the commanding officer about it and he just said "you did what you had to do" then he talked to his spotter and he said that if you didn't make that spot then how many of us would have died. He's struggling with PTSD really bad from it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like some pretty gruesome. But that is to be expected when you're reading a book about a military conflict. This does seem pretty realistic though. Is this fiction or nonfiction?
DeleteIn my book Stotan, the main problem that happens is Jeff is sick and in the hospital. The other 3 guys on the swim team are not only Jeffs team mates, but his best friends. They are all pretty ad for Jeff along with their coach and parents obviously, but they realize there is not much they can do about it. The 3 boys still on the team are super down and sad, but they handle themselves good by taking all their anger out on the water. They practice harder than ever before to make sure they did as good as possible at the state meet without Jeff. It adds to the story line of the novel because at the state meet, all the boys swim their own events and are not allowed to swim in the relay. But instead of following the rules, the 3 of them put on a 3 person relay during the 400 free relay at the end of the meet. They do very well and believed that they could have won if Jeff had been there. They wanted to end their swimming with a bang without Jeff, for Jeff. And they did just that.
ReplyDeletein my book the name of this book is secret the charters face challenges like solving complex puzzles to pretending to be a famous celebrity to save the life of Benjamin Blake at the midnight sun spa. so I would say the kind of conflict is person vs. person because Cass & Max are trying stop Dr. L & Ms. Mauvais plans to sacrifice Benjamin. thought this book Cass & Max are trying to stop the villains and keep their actions discreet so their parents don't find out about the dangerous adventures they have been on.
ReplyDeleteThrough our our group discussions, you book seemed very intense. There always seemed to be some type of conflict or secret that the characters had to go through. Good job at getting through it, i don't think i would have been able to.
DeleteIt seems like your book could get pretty intense with all the conflicts. The secrets is what makes it really interesting. I wonder what the deal is with Benjamin. I would enjoy reading about the adventures that the characters go on. Sounds interesting!
DeleteI am reading Les Miserables, and the main conflict that takes place in the book is between Jean Valjean, an ex-galley turned millionaire, and the oppressive society of France in the 19th century. The conflict is as follows: Jean Valjean was released from the galleys, and he went to start is life fresh. But he still held some animosity towards society, and decided that he would try and get revenge to those who wronged him. He walked five leagues to this one town called D---. He asked for shelter and food for the night, and he was turned away by everyone because of his history, with the exception of one person, which happened to be the bishop of D---. He let him stay in his house for one night, and after that one night was up, Jean Valjean stole all of the silver in his house which he intended to leave town with. Fortunately enough, he was stopped by a gendarme, and he took Jean Valjean to the bishop to return the silver. The bishop, being forgiving and understanding, told the gendarme that he gave the silver to Jean Valjean for his troubles. After that confrontation, he left town. Along his way to who knows where, he came across a boy, which he robbed. He looked upon the boy, who was frightened, and ran off, and after a moment, he too also became frightened of the act he had just committed, so he wanted to return the money to the boy he had robbed. A few years later, we found out that he made it a invention, which in turn made him a lot of money in the town of M--- sur M---. At this point, he is a changed man, and he is a stark contrast to the person he was a few years earlier. He goes by the name of Father Madeline, and he gives to the poor, and the people that work for him have modest wages. Despite all of this, he is still put down by society, and eventually his past does catch up to him. He turns himself in, and is, once again, sentenced to work in the galleys, but this time, it is for the remainder of his life. Jean Valjean tries to redeem himself, and rightfully does in my opinion, yet he is still turned down by society. He worked so hard to make amends, but he is still treated like a convict. This conflict really does add to the story, because it shows that even if you made one daunting mistake in the past, that mistake will certainly catch up to you, and you will have to pay your dues. The conflict really wasn't solved in anyway. Jean Valjean is still a wanted criminal. Because after he was arrested, he was on a ship in the Mediterranean. A shipmate went over-board, and he jumped in to save him. But in doing so, he faked his death, and successfully convinced everyone that he was soundly dead. But when he returned to Paris, a inspector that was quite familiar with him, Jared Javert, identified him in the streets, and promptly mounted a manhunt to catch Jean Valjean once and for all. So in Laymen's terms, the conflict is unresolved.
ReplyDeleteYour book seems very long. I love Les Mis but I have only seen the movie. I tried to read the book last year but I got confused with all of the characters. Maybe I will try and read it again!
DeleteIn my book, 'Girl in Pieces', the main conflict is my definitely person vs self. Charlie was placed in a psych-ward after being found with self harm scars. She is battling multiple mental illnesses, including but not only depression and suicidal thoughts. After she leaves the hospital is a difficult battle to try and resist the temptations of running back to her old life and to stay clean.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Night. My book is more about person v person than anything else. The primary conflict is Eliezar against the Nazis. The conflict is Eliezar trying not to get killed in the concentration camp and not go to the crematory. My main character handles himself well by doing what he needs to do to survive. The conflict adds to the story by telling us what really happened during Nazi Germany and not what the history teachers tell us. Eliezar resolves this conflict by having to sacrifice a lot and take a few hits, that and he is also lucky.
ReplyDeletei agree that is what the whole book is about an the other conflict is the weather the weather sounds cold and a lot of snow.
DeleteI read this book and it was a good read
DeleteI read this book and really enjoyed it. I hope you liked it
DeleteBoy Erased is mostly person vs. self. In the book the main character, Garrard, is gay. He and his family are very religious so he is having a hard time accepting himself. After he is outed to his family he decides that he is going to a conversion therapy program to save him from his sin. The main conflict is Garrard trying to accept himself. At the end of the book he finally realizes that he has to be himself, even if that means being gay.
ReplyDeletei can relate, because my book is the same conflict. i would love to hear how Garrard solves his problems and if other people accept him.
DeleteThe book that i am reading is black and white and the character is in a person vs society and he is going threw all the trouble you could imagine. it was back in the day where it was the white vs black people and how they fought over rights and how everyone thought that there should be different rights for the individuals an i feel like that was some bull and that it doesn't matter by your skin color just let the boys play some basketball i don't see why threw this whole book the kid got so much crap just for being black but he was actually a very good basketball player he dragged his whole team to a championship game and he still didn't get the credit he deserved.
ReplyDeleteI am reading Crazy Rich Asians and the main conflict is person vs society. The main character Rachel is dating Nick who comes from a very rich family in Singapore. Throughout the book it's pretty much Rachel against his whole family. Since he comes from a rich family, they want him to marry someone of relevance and wealth. Rachel lives in America and comes from a middle class family. While they're over in Singapore, Nick's mom Eleanor tries to sabotage their relationship because his family thinks shes just after his money. During the trip, different family members try and get under Rachel's skin to make her leave. Rachel grows thick skin and ignores everyone's attempts to scare her away. She becomes the bigger person and doesn't fuel the fire. This conflict is pretty much the whole story line. Without this, there would be no plot or story. The conflict never really got resolved. Eleanor brought Rachel to her breaking point and believed she won, but Rachel still ended up staying with Nick.
ReplyDeleteI had the same conflict person vs. society on my book, which is about the holocaust.
DeleteThe Hate U Give's biggest conflict is Person V Society. Starr's main conflict is with society, because it has turned its back on Starr and her community. They pass it off as if they don't care that these gangbangers should be dead and it will make the world a better place because they are no longer there, but they are still human and their lives do matter. There are so many conflicts but the biggest few are the cop shooting and unarmed teenage boy, Starr having to be two different people to fit in, and people hating her for speaking out. She was very worried that who she is will fade away and all that would be left is her the victim, the witness, and she didn't want that to be who she is,now she wants to be the person who speaks out and demands change and that is who she ends up being. This novel would not exist without these conflicts because there would still be discrimination in the world, but without the shooting the fire that burns inside Starr wouldn't have been started. The conflict isn't really resolved, but the outcome of the trial shows Starr that she still needs to be a voice of change, for herself, Khalil, the community and the world.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100 percent I think that aside from the person vs. Society the next biggest conflict is person vs self Starr struggles to keep her home life apart from her school life. She talks about in the book how she cant let her Garden Heights Starr out at school and I think that would be really hard to pretend to be one person at school and then to be yourself at home.
DeleteI am reading the book night and in my book Ellie has many hardship from nature to people beating him. most of the conflict is person vs person Ellie is in this camp because Germany does not like Jews and all of the Jews from across the country are held there because he is different from the Aryan race that Hitler wants so he is forced to work all day. The other main conflict is nature being cold and snowing all day and then making everyone tired after running through the snow. the main conflict is solved when the Russians come and find the camp and save anyone that is still alive there and feed then.
ReplyDeletei read the book and i thought it was very interesting, what are your over all thoughts on it?
DeleteI read that book and it was good, but as good as my book because Night was not very descriptive but my book I have lived a thousand years is way more descriptive book where they tell you every single thing they did. The book are typically the same because its both about the holocaust but your book is about the men side of the concentration camps and my book is about the woman side of the concentration camps.
DeleteI'm reading the book "Skinny" and in the book Ever the main character is having problems and hardships with her stress and depression and her weight also her enemy skinny as she is named. ever has a horrible stress eating problem anytime that she is feeling down or stressed about something she will eat and incurable amount of junk food and her antagonist fuels that sadness and stress so she makes it worse for Ever then it ever was before.
ReplyDeletein my book i had seen castles the main character john has a conflict with society and his lady friend ginny. it is 1942 and pearl harbor was just bombed. everybody is angry and every able bodied man is signing up for the army. Any man who isnt signing up is being seen as a coward and is being shunned by the community. john has his mind set on signing up for the army once he turns 18. but then he meets ginny this girl that is like no other and he instantly falls in love with her. they both have differing opinions on the war and she doesnt want him to leave she wants him to stay with her. but he knows he has to go or he will be seen as a coward and it is because of this conflict that drives these characters apart and john does not handle this well at all.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book This present Darkness and this is a character vs. society book. The three main characters have to face many different things that are thrown at them. They have to keep their faith and the entire town turned their backs on them. The business corporation that turned the town to upside down has taken over the college and the people.
ReplyDeleteThe book im reading is Funny How Things Change and the conflict in my book is person vs. self and its whether or not Remy wants to move away with his girlfriend when she goes to college. His girlfriend tells him how they're going to have this great life and everything but he doesn't know why he'd want to move out of the time they live in now or moving away from his dad is another thats on his mind. He knows that he doesnt have enough money to afford an apartment or even a car, and not even any ideas on a job he would get.
ReplyDeletesounds like an interesting story. do they end up moving?
DeleteI am reading the book Fantasy League and my book has a lot of conflicts that the main character must face. Charlie who is a 12 year old boy helps an NFL team pick up players. when the media finds out he gets a lot of attention and he must learn how to handle all the eyes on him and being talked about good and bad. another conflict in the book is when one of Charlie's picks doesn't do so hot right when he starts playing and charlie and the Gm of the team are being talked about in the media has idiots and its really hard for Charlie and he has to gain really thick skin to deal with it all. and the last conflict is when the Owner of the team who charlie looks up to as a father figure gets cancer and must live with it. that one is the most hard on charlie because he is so attached to him and he must learn to not look at the bad and focus on the good.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book four days to glory and it doesnt have too much conflict in it. Just that the main character jay gets beat after he wins his fourth state championship and some people cannot believe it. but he uses as motivation heading into college.
ReplyDeletein my book, Shooting the Moon, a conflict that is faced with the main character is person vs self. when her brother goes missing, she goes through a stressful moment in her life, she tries to find out where he went when he sent her photos. she spent multiple days trying to find clues until she excepted the fact that he can help himself and there isn't anything she can do to help. the book ends without knowing what happens to her brother, you just have to assume what happens to her brother.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading the book I have lived a thousand years and the conflict is person vs. society because Ellike is facing the harsh and cruel pain from the police at the Auschwitz concentration camps. All the Jews are being beaten and murder to death. Ellike is bright and brave to help her live through this harsh times. Ellike was whipped several times because she didn't do what she was supposed to do, dig holes. She survived and was able to live through this harsh times during the holocaust.
ReplyDeleteIn my book, Ranger's Apprentice, it is built up that the main conflict within the novel is the dangers of Morgarath and his Wargal army. Throughout the book it is emphasized many times over that Morgarath is a dangerous force and that he will stop at nothing to take revenge on those who banished him long ago. As powerful has their enemy is, Halt and Will are going to be ready to fight for their home.
ReplyDeleteMy book's conflict is person vs society. Natasha is being deported and there's nothing she can do about it. She goes to countless lawyers, deportation offices, to try to be able to stay in the country, but she cannot. This conflict is also person vs person because Natasha's father is the reason they are getting deported. She is upset with her father and with the lawyers even though they did all they could do.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book The portrait of a Lady. The main type of conflict I think is present is person vs person. I think that because the main character can never not be bothered by unmarried men who want to marry her. So she never gets a chance to breath with herself and herself only.
