Blog Response #5
With the introduction of the new novel, share in your blog what attracted you to this novel. After reading the first few chapters, what are your initial thoughts about the book? Slow start? Jumps right in? Share your first impressions.
with this new novel nothing really attracted me to this book it was one of y last choices. after ready this first little bit of this book i really do not like it and i find it very boring. it gives her background to her and her family so it is a slow start.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it has a very slow start but I think that it will get better. I actually do not think that it is that boring because I like learning about other cultures.
Deletewhat book are you guys talking about??
DeleteI think that my book Kite runner is kind of slow at the start. It starts off with Amir talking about his childhood and how he has a hard time meeting his father's expectations. But i do feel bad for Amir's friend Hassan because he is illiterate. I feel that the book will get better as i read it more.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Logan, the book does start off a little slow. Although it starts off slow, it is still a good start that gets the attention of the reader. I'm looking forward to see what happens next.
Deletei agree with both of you Logan and Ryan, the start of the book is pretty slow.
DeleteSo I have I am Malala, at the beginning of the book is really slow so far its just giving the background of of her family and herself. So i really dont like the book it will hard to finish this book since i had not gotten the book i had at the top that would be really interesting to me and would have been fun to read.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that you didn't gt the book you wanted. Just grind your book out and get'r done.
Deletei hope you eventually enjoy your book, but for now just keep plowing through
Deletethe book sounds good! i hope that it speeds up so you can enjoy it Mr. Bierman. good luck with the rest of you book
DeleteI am sorry to hear that Dawson. I hope that as you get further into the book, you find the book pleasing. Good luck Dawson.
DeleteI am reading I Am Malala and nothing attracted me to this book. It was third on my list. So far this book is very boring, it was hard for me to read some parts. It's giving a lot of background to her family and history of the village Swat. This definitely is a slow start, but hopefully it picks up and gets better.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I think that even though it has a slow start, it will get better.
DeleteI hope your book begins to pick up soon! Hopefully you will start to enjoy it soon.
DeleteMy book, The Kite Runner, starts off pretty slow to by giving a lot of background from the main characters childhoods. I hope your book gets better and it jumps into some more interesting topics for you soon. Good luck on your book!!
DeleteI also agree with you, there was a reason this book was my last choice. Its so slow and boring but hopefully it gets better.
DeleteI Am Malala was one of my first choices so I am happy that I got it. It has a pretty slow start because all it's talking about is Malala, her family and her village. I hope that it gets better.
ReplyDeleteI hope your book gets more interesting to read.
DeleteI am Malala was my second choice because I think from what we talked about in class before picking the book her story sounds amazing. I might pick this book for my independent novel for our third book!! Happy reading!!
DeleteUsually books are boring in the first couple of chapters. I really think that book will get better as you read.
DeleteThe main thing that drew my attention to Night was that it took place during the Holocaust and it was first hand expanse of the Hollie coast and what they went threw. After reading the first few chapter of Night it jumps right in and gets the ball rolling with the Germans gaining ground and taking over and the allies wanting to fend them and they have hope in the allies. It also starts very quickly jumping into making them live in ghettos. My first impression of this book is its gonna be very interesting and keep you on your toes and I think I will really like it.
ReplyDeleteI have just finished the prologues and I can't wait to start it. I hope you enjoy your book!
DeleteI agree 100% with you guys. I can't wait to read it from cover to cover. for me I don't think that will take very long lol.
DeleteI think you will enjoy this book because the holocaust was a scary time for anyone being held up in the camps. hope you have the guts to read it all the way through.
Deleteyour book sounds like one that would pull me in and i would want to read from start to finish in a day.
DeleteI agree with you, i also have a interest in the holocaust and the book does jump right in.
DeleteI am reading The Kite Runner. This book was my second option but I am pleased with it already. I was instantly hooked in the book. Listening to the characters talk about there childhood instantly made me connect to my childhood, climbing trees and getting in trouble. Amir and Hassan both grew up without there mother. I could not imagine not having my mother. The book is off to a good start and I'm excited to see what happens in the rest of the book.
ReplyDeleteI really hope you enjoy your book Mr. Clemen. It seems like a very interesting book.
DeleteAfter reading a bit into A Long Way Gone, I can't say i'm all that hooked yet. Despite the details of civil war, death and other things, the plot seems to be only slowly moving along. I can tell that the topics that this book will touch upon will be rather heavy but that's exactly why this was my first selection. Even though in my opinion the start was not so hot, I have hope that I will enjoy the rest of the story.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with you. This book starts out very intense and i like it.
DeleteI agree. Even if the beginning starts off slow at first, it'll eventually pick up pretty fast later on in the story.
Deletei agree with both of you guys this book starts out intense and then mellows out a little bit.
DeleteI am reading kite runner so far i don't know what to think about the book so far i have only read two chapters but this book seems like its going to be hard to read and extremely hard to finish on time 371 pages.........
ReplyDeleteHopefully you end up liking your book and finish it on time
DeleteI hope your not overwhelmed with the amount of pages and that you will try hard and complete the book.
DeleteI am reading Thousand Splendid Suns and I was drawn to this book because I wanted to learn more about how women are treated in other countries and I felt like it would be easier to connect to a book about women over a book about men. The book is off to a good start so far. My first impression was sadness because of the way the characters talk to each other and the outlook they have towards each other. I cant wait for the story line to develop!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. The book is easier to relate to because it is about women. Happy reading!
DeleteI agree with you as well that it shows us how other women are treated in other countries. It is also easier to relate to because its about women and we already know some stuff about how women in other countries are treated.
DeleteWhat attracted me to A Thousand Splendid Suns was that it talked about the social roles of women in the Afghan culture, and that it is the other side of the kite runner which was my second choice after a this novel. I read enjoy reading this book so far but they use a lot of words that aren't in English so that throws me off sometimes. This book i think jumps right in to her life, and i already feel bad for her. Her mother calls her a horrible name in the very first page of the book, but i can not wait to see what her life turns out to be farther along in the book.
ReplyDeleteI agree the words are hard to follow because they are not words that we use. I also feel the same way about the way her mom talks to her because it isn't very nice. Hope you enjoy the rest of the book!
DeleteI am also reading that book but I think the beginning is kind of slow. There is a lot of description of the characters and their house. It is starting to get better the farther I get into the book. I really feel sorry for the main character, I really hope things get better for her.
DeleteKite Runner also uses a lot of words that are not English and I have to use the context to figure out what they mean which makes it harder to read.
DeleteWhen reading I noticed that to about the different language. I frustrates me when then do not translate it. So far in the book they have only translated one word. I totally agree about the whole jumping in thing the author wastes no time at the beginning. I think the book is already good and I cant wait for it to get better!
DeleteI agree with you in the beginning its kinda hard to understand and we have to translate words just so we understand whats going on. The author does a good job with getting right into the book and letting us know what the book is going to be about. I also feel very bad for her as well because her mom does not treat her well and she is growing up with a mother that does not care for her.
DeleteBilly Carpenter
ReplyDeleteI am reading a long way gone and the book is about this small boy from a village and he went to a new village to participate in a talent show and the first chapter his friend came back from school early and told the young boy that there had been a rebel attack back at his home village and then the boy traced his footsteps back and made it about half way and was met by the people from his village terrified and he said that he saw dead bloody body and that all the people were hiding i think this book so far is starting off good i'm hoping to read that he reunites with his family
I definitely agree. I hope he makes back with his family. It can be really sad when someone who we can relate to is young in the book doesn't make it back with his family at the end of the story.
Deletesounds like your book is very interesting and will have some planning out to do to get the book to come to a good ending.
DeleteI am reading a long way gone. It was my second choice, but so far it seems to be a good book. It doesn't take very long for people to start to die. The book starts off intense and seems to stay that way and that's what i like. The book is pretty interesting at this point and it seems like it is going to be a good book. Go Bobcats
ReplyDeletegood to hear you're enjoying your book, but its too bad that people are dead. p.s. GO BOBCATS
Deletei bet it makes it more interesting and it doesnt start out boring or slow so it makes the book better.
DeleteI hate books that dumps you right into the action while we dont even know the plot of the book yet. Hopefully your favorite character survives.
DeleteI agree that the book didnt take long to for stuff to start happening. I think that the books going to be pretty good and interesting throughout it as well.
DeleteAs far as how A Long Way Gone starts, it starts out at a normal pace with Ismael talking about in flashbacks to when he only heard about the war. I like that it starts off with the main character retelling the events of the war and the news he heard about it. I will admit, chapter 2 threw me off a little bit at the start with it starting off as a dream, and having it end with Ishmael waking up in his home in New York. But other than that, I think the book starts pretty good.
ReplyDeletei agree completely with this book is god but takes a lot of turns quickly.
DeleteI think that is one of the most interesting and best way to start a book off is by retelling some back round information. Night also started off with the main charter retelling past events. Night also is a little confusing in parts but I think its because in just in a different way of life and harder to relate too.
Deletei wsh i was reading along way gone and i was hoping to read it but its fine.
DeleteI also think the book started off well. It opened the scene perfectly for what was to come and that was truly great.
DeleteIn the book Night I find it was an amazing start. Elie Wiesel jumped right into it telling us how he lost some of his family members. He also recalls events that happened during the holocaust. He tells us about why he wants to testify against those who killed the innocent lives ranging from little newborn babies to those who would be great grandparents.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree that Elie jumps right into his story and I personally like they way he starts it because it grabs your attention yes its not the most interesting thing way but he gives you the information and gets straight to it.
DeleteI agree, Elie Wiesel jumps right into the book with telling the stories of what's going on around him. Even though some people already know a lot about the Holocaust and little things about it, it still seems to keep you hooked to know about what's going on.
DeleteThis book is one of my favorite book to read. I love to read things about the Holocaust, and this book describe things in a way that you can visualizes what's happening as you read. There are very hard things that Ellie go though I can not say this book not make me cry because it did. There re so many time Ellie father felt like quitting, but he did the best he could to stay together until the last minute.
DeleteI'm also reading night and I agree that the book starts quickly and grabs your attention right away with the intensity of the horrific acts Elie Wiesel witnessed during the Holocaust.
DeleteI am reading A Thousand Splendid Suns. The reason why I picked this book is because it talks about what life was like for women in the 1900's. Women definitely get treated way different now because they can have a job other than getting hired by the rich to be a maid. So far this book is hard to follow because some of the words are from their culture. For example Kolba which means a small shack and that is what mariam and her mom live in. The book started slow but it was getting a little bit more interesting at the end of chapter 5.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this book starts off very slow but hopefully it will get a lot more interesting.
DeleteI am reading A Thousand Splendid Suns. I was intrigued by this book because of the abuse and how women were treated in Afghanistan. The main thing I don't like about this book is that every page has at least one Afghanistan word and most of the time the author doesn't tell you what they mean. So I have to search on google and I can only find 90% of the words that I find in the book and I get confused with this new language popping up every paragraph. The first couple of chapters started off slow, nothing really was happening and it is mostly just an introduction of many characters. It was a little boring and hard to continue reading. Once I got to the end of chapter 5, it got more interesting. So hopefully the book will get easier to read and more interesting things will happen.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with that. I am also reading that book, and yes it has started off slow. But it is getting better. The words are a little confusing but the context around them helps me understand what those words mean. I think the book will get better and more entertaining to read.
DeleteI am read the book the book along way gone and in this book it moves from the background in the story right into the war that breaks out across the country. this book draws you in fast and when u get far enough into it the book is amazing.
ReplyDeletei agree completely. I accidentally read to far because its so good. I'm really enjoying it.
Deleteim glad that you are enjoying your book. it seems like there is a lot of action already.
DeleteThe amount of sheer conflict that opens this book was enough to keep me going too. I can't seem to put it down now.
Deletei agree with that its draws you into it really fast there is so much action in the first part of the book
DeleteI am reading A Thousand Splendid Suns and my first thoughts on the book was it started out slow. There was a lot of descriptions with character introductions, but the more I read the better it gets. Each chapter starts something new, so it has started to move faster.
ReplyDeleteYour book seems really interesting. This was my first on list to read. Hopefully the book is more enjoyable later on.
DeleteAgreed. The book didn't start picking up until chapter 12, when she moved to her dad's house. From there on it does get pretty interesting.
DeleteThe book does start out slow but like you said, each chapter adds something new and makes the story more and more entertaining as it starts to pick up.
DeleteI am reading Kite Runner and it was one of my first choices. At first it was a difficult start. The words and religions and people were all very confusing to me. But it quickly picked up when they began talking about the kite running and the tournament. I'm already getting really into this book especially after what happened after the kite race to Haasan and I'm curious as to where its going to go from here.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you the book is kind of hard to read at times because you don't understand what they are saying so you kind of just have to figure it out by continuing to read.
Deleteseems like a great book that was my their choice.
DeleteFor my second book I am reading The Kite Runner. So far I think the book kind of starts off a little slow because it starts out talking about background information about the main character an background on a few other important characters. I feel almost at the same time it also jumps into some deep topics like a father disowning his child because the child does not like sports and is not good at them either. My thoughts so far on the book is that is pretty good because I am starting to see some of the stuff that happens in other countries. I think we might not think as a society that we live in a sheltered community, but, from what I have read so far I think that we do really live in a shelter society because we only see slivers of what rally happens in these other place.
ReplyDeleteI like learning about the customs of other countries as well and the story picks up a lot after the first few chapters.
DeleteI think the books introduction is way to slow i am now several chapters in and i still have not picked up any interest in the book at all.
DeleteI like that this is a way to look into the lives of other people, who have different customs and culture than we do. It gives us a fleeting look into the world around us that we don't normally have in day to day life.
Deletethe book im reading also does the same thing by starting off kinda slow but then jumps into deep things and the author really doesn't hold anything back.
DeleteThis book was suggested to me by someone who previously read it, they told me it was really good so i was excited to start reading it. The book starts off a little slower but soon picks up with the story of how their town went from a good place to live, turning into a ghetto, and then totally taken from their homes and moved to a concentration camp.
ReplyDeletei think this book will be very interesting. i also chose this book and heard it was good
DeleteI am jealous that I am not reading this book so update me and tell me the events that happen.
Deletei chose to read night. this book seems very intersting because it takes place during the holocaust which i like to read about. i am looking forward to reading Elie's story of how he went through the holocaust. i am 20 pages in and find it interesting already.
ReplyDeleteI'm also reading that book and I enjoy it alot
DeleteI think that book look very interesting. world war 2 books are always cool.
DeleteLooks like a good book, the holocaust is a very interesting topic and wish i got this book. I like learning about would war books.
DeleteI am also reading the book called night, and i am fascinated by the holocaust and they are treated.
Deleteso im reading thousand splendid suns and i wanted to read it because of the reading we did when we were picking them out. i kinda like the book but its a little bit hard to read.
ReplyDeletesofar I can relate because my book is off to a hard start and I am having a hard time with it.
DeleteI am reading the book Night and I like how it jumps straight into it. The book starts out with them living in town which is a good place to live to having it turned into a ghetto and now they were all taken to the concentration camp. This book will keep me on my toes because of all the stuff happening.
ReplyDeletei agree the book does get right into it and will keep its reader on their toes until the books is done.
DeleteNight was my second choice. i really think i would like it. It seems like an intense book
DeleteI agree really keeps me on the toes, and it will throughout the book.
DeleteI am reading the book Night, this book attracted me because it is about a jew living within a concentration camp during the holocaust and that really sparked my interest because it was such an awful thing that happened and you want to know as much as you can so you will never forget. the book got into it really quick and within the first 30 pages they get taken to the concentration camp so it does not waste anytime.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the book gets right into it and doesnt waste any time.
DeleteNight is the book i wanted to read and im very disapointed i did not get it. I really hope you enjoy it Mr. Kelchen
DeleteAs bad as it is to say, reading about how bad the people were treated also sparked m interest. I hope it does not get too graphic when describing what is happening.
Deletethis was my number 1 choice and it seems really interesting how the jews were actually treated and how inhumane the nazis were and what they did to the jews
DeleteThe book Kite Runner has a little bit of a slow start but now that a lot of characters are introduced it will pick up. You can already tell that life is different than in the United States. The names will be tough to memorize but i think it will be good.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the book did start off pretty slow and that alot of chararters are comng nto the book. Very easy to tell There not from THe Us ordianlly
DeleteI'm reading a thousand splendid suns and just like in Kite Runner it is off to a slow start but you can totally tell it is not based in America and I kind of like it except for the fact the there are words that are in a different language. The author does do a good job in explaining what the word is after he uses it.
DeleteI was attracted to a long way gone because it was a war book and i love reading those kinds of books. My initial thoughts of the book is that it is pretty good. It is kind of intense and i want to keep reading. It was sort of a slow start but i still enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI like that your enjoying your book. I agree that it is intense andi also want to keep reading.
DeleteThat sounds like a good book Isaac, I hope that you enjoy the rest of it
DeleteThe book Kite runner is not the book i wanted to read so it will be long the entire time, but i may be wrong. The book started off slow with Amir talking about his dad and how he is not making his expectations. It is easy to tell Amir is not around here because of the things they do.
ReplyDeleteBoy Turn. I think you will end up enjoying your book, because it sounds like an interesting one.
Deletei agree i think the book is to slow and will seem like forever to read over the next few weeks.
DeleteThe book A Long Way Gone got right to the action. I am really enjoying the book but it does have terrible details. The peaceful part in the beginning seems like something i would love to witness. i find Africa very interesting and would love to visit there someday.
ReplyDeletei am also reading this book and enjoy it because it talks about war. the action at the beginning really draws you in and gets you hooked on the book
DeleteThis sounds like a very interesting book
DeleteI agree with you Cody. There are a lot of graphic details that get described.
DeleteI'm reading Night by Elie Wiesel, I picked this book because I love to learn about history. It's about a Jewish family during world war 2. It's hard to read because some of the stuff is messed up and it was real.
ReplyDeleteYa, the Holocaust was a real tragedy and terrible things happened. I feel bad for those families.
DeleteI agree it is going to be hard to read because in the back of your head you will always remember that this book is real and these things really happened.
DeleteI am reading the book Night by Elie Wiesel. I was attached to this book mostly because the other options dis-attached me, but also because the Holocaust is something everybody knows about, but not many people know the actual details. I figured i would learn more details if i read this book so thats why it was my first choice. My initial thoughts to this book were scared for whats going to come. The first few pages already start to describe small things that happen and those already scare me. I think it will be hard to read this whole book without cringing a little bit.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the other book options. I just couldn't relate, and they did not interest me. Night grabbed my attention, and I thought it would be the most interesting to learn about. So far the reality of this book is horrifying, and I am also scared for what is to come for the author and his family.
Deletei am reading night, im really glad i got this because it was recommended to me by a friend. i haven't gotten to far but its about a family that had a nice and friendly place to live in but then they started to get taken out of their town and put into concentration camps. some of the things so far make this book seem super dark and messed up, but I'm glad it isn't censored and it isn't sugar coated to make it seem like it wasn't a awful thing to go through.
ReplyDeleteI also like that it's not censored because it gives the readers the full experience and displays how terrible it was back then.
DeleteEvery page in the book Night by Elie Wiesel is real and reminds you what happened during the holocaust
DeleteI am reading the novella by Elia Wiesel, I am reading book because it contains his life tragedies he has experienced though the holocaust. In the book the author tells you historical events he witnessed during the events of the holocaust. This book is a tuff read not because of the author's writing style, but the graphic images that are painted in your mind by the reality of the events he has lived through.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI agree that the graphic images are horrific and unforgettable. I could not believe that the Nazis threw babies into pits of fire and used them as target practice!
DeleteThe book I am reading is Night. This was my first choice, because I have always held some fascination with learning about the Holocaust. I appreciate that it is a true story narrated by the author. The novel does start somewhat slow; however, the flow of the novel is picking up. The author does an excellent job of giving background information leading further into the war. Currently, in the book, the true reality of the war is only just beginning for the author and his family.
ReplyDeleteI think your book seems interesting and is kind of learning experience during that time period. We don't think somethings are really that bad until we read the graphic stories. Hopefully it's enjoyable and interesting to read.
DeleteI've also held fascination with learning about the Holocaust. This is surely a book that would help increase knowledge about such a time in history.
DeleteNothing really attracted me to this book as it was one of my last few choices. It is starting off pretty slow so i hope it gets better
ReplyDeletesame with mine. My book is The kite Runner.
DeleteI think the Night is off to a good start the names in the book i don't like though, because there hard to pronounce but besides that the book is going well but not far enough into it to know if i like it or not.
ReplyDeleteim reading the same book as you and so far she goes off,
DeleteI recived the book night by elie wiesel because this was my first choice. This book attracted me because I like to learn about the holocaust, the holocaust has always kind of interested me so this seemed like the book for me. my first impressions of the book are its confusing, the story line is going year by year but at first they are going through the years very fast.
ReplyDeleteThis book was my first choice as well. I wanted about the holocaust more in depth to get the full experience from someone who actually went through and survived it. When I first started reading the first few pages I started to loose interest but as I got further into the book it grabbed my attention.
DeleteWhat attracted me to A Long Way Gone was that its about a kid who goes to war. i think it will make for a really good story. For the most part the book gets right into the action. So far i think its a really good book.
ReplyDeleteA long way gone was my first choice because i thought it was going to be a really good book also.
DeleteI agree with you Garrett. I hope you`re enjoying the book so far.
DeleteThe book i am reading is The Kite Runner. I think it's a slow start to my book, barley any events happen in my book
ReplyDeleteI am reading Night by Elie Wiesel which was my first choice. I've always been interested in learning about the Holocaust, so that's what originally drew me to this book. So far I think it's going well. I personally think the book jumps right in because someone is talking about what's going on.
ReplyDeleteI was always interested in reading about holocaust, and how they were treated in the concentration camps.
Deletei was attracted to the book for the same reason but i dont think the book started off fast.
Deletei'm reading a thousand splendid suns and the thing that brought me to the choice of this book was the reading that we did when we were choosing books to put on a list because of how the main character was being treated by her husband and it made me feel a little bit angry to read something like that and realize that's how it is in the culture that they live in.
ReplyDeletei am reading a long way gone, this book was my third choice and it seemed interesting because it talked about war and that sparked my interest. it started out fairly slow but got into some action and the beginning few chapter. i think this book will get better and have some heavy action in it and a great read.
ReplyDeleteI am reading night it is scary to read because it talks about what happens in Germany and the horror about the holocaust
ReplyDeleteI chose Night, by Elie Wiesel because most of the other options seemed slow paced and boring. The book started off a little slow but then things all started to happen at once. I wanted to learn what it was like in Germany when the holocaust was going on and Elie experienced it first hand so it's interesting to see what it was like from his perspective.
ReplyDeleteI also chose that book, and I'm glad it starts to pick up the pace. I'm not very far, but the book still sounds interesting. It will be very interesting to read about how he experienced the Holocaust first-hand and how he lived through it.
DeleteI received the book night and what is nice is that it starts to get good right away. Elie Wiesel describes this book very well and he makes you want to keep reading it.
ReplyDeletei really thought that the book started slow with the introduction. but it does get good fast
DeleteWhat attracted me to the book "A Long Way Gone" i he fact that it takes place during a time of war from Africa. That`s not normally a place we hear don`t hear getting talked about on the news very much so it`s interesting how the setting gets described. I think it started off slow. Then it just jumps into a flashback of when the war first started.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book Thousand Splendid Suns. It was confusing when I start the first chapter but but as a keep reading we got better and better. Even tough there are very sad parts in Mariam life she lost her mother and realize his father did not loved her. I really think is creepy how man can have more than one wives and how they are not responsible for all their kids. And how youngest girls have to marry with older guys than them. Also how mothers don't allow certain girls studying because they think they only born to get marry and be in the house to serve their husband. I personally think that's fair for those women that want to have a better life and don't want to get marry at the age of 15th with someone who can be his father or grandpa.
ReplyDeleteThat book was my second choice, and it sounds interesting from the way you talk about it. I feel bad for the girl. Losing a parent sounds tough, and it must suck for her to have a father that doesn't even love her. Their culture sounds unfair with the males being dominant and the girls not having much say in their own life.
DeleteI am reading the book Night. What attracted me to the book was that it was about the Holocaust, which I think is really interesting to read about, especially since I have more background knowledge about it. At first, the book is kind of confusing because he uses terms dealing with his religion that I don't know or understand, and it's a slow start. I hope it gets more exciting soon.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book called Night. What attracted me to this book was that it was about the holocaust and how they were treated at the Concentration Camps. After reading a couple of pages, I thought this book won't be so bad after all. I am taking this book slow because all the emotions that is happening during the holocaust time. I honestly think this book would be easy to read but the emotions that will be in this book will be hard to talk all in.
ReplyDeleteI was given the book Night which was my number one choice. I love U.S history and learning about all things Holocaust, so I knew this book was going to be the book I wanted. While reading the first few chapters, I have noticed that it jumps right in without hesitating. I really enjoy the book so far and cant wait to keep reading!
ReplyDeleteSo far in the book A Long way Gone, i thought that he explained some things but then took off right away and got into the war. after reading about the war for a little bit he went back and explained things about there past. i think that the book so far is pretty good and interesting, and i think that it will stay that way throughout the book.
ReplyDeleteto be honest one of the reasons i picked the book was because of how short it was but the other reason i picked the book was because i am very interested in ww2 and i love to learn about it and i wanted to learn what elie went through because i have heard so little of what it was like through the eyes of a jew in the holocaust. starting off the book is really slow talking about the book and why it didnt get published and do well but after a little bit it gets into the nitty gritty of the holocaust and gets to him in the concentration camp. at first i thought it was boring but after a little bit more of reading it gets very interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe history surrounding WW2 is very interesting, agreed. And from prior knowledge, the war did start off pretty slow, so it makes sense that the book would start off pretty slow as well.
DeleteWhat originally attracted me to this book was the title of the book. This book also gives you some insight into middle eastern culture, even in the introduction of the book. I think the book is pretty good, and it'll keep getting better as I continue to read on. Although it is grim in a few portions of the book, it is always good to see the main character, Mariam, triumph over her misfortune. In addition, it is kind of slow in the beginning, but when you get to chapter twelve, things take off and the book becomes way more enjoyable to read.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book A Thousand Splendid Suns and what attracted me to it was that we get to learn about what the life of women are like in other countries and get to experience it through there eyes. After the first few chapters its really hard to understand with words we dont know and have to translate the just so we know what is going on. The author does a great job of jumping right into the book and thats good because sometimes having a prologue makes the book even longer and sometimes boring.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the first few chapters were fairly difficult because they don't translate or explain most of the words that are not English. It's hard to follow at first but it does get better, and the author does a fantastic job jumping into the story.
DeleteA Thousand Splendid Suns was one of my first choices. I have always wanted to read this book and to learn more about how women are treated in different countries. The author does an amazing job slowly building into the story, giving back ground for the main character instead of jumping right in. It proceeds to get more and more interesting each chapter.
ReplyDeleteNight was my very first choice. Im glad i got it because i have always been interested in the holocaust. So far my thoughts on the book is that it is hard to read and a lot of information. I think the book just jumps right into the life of Elie.
