  1. I chose The Jungle Book, because seems like an interesting book. So far i met Mowgli hes a guy that gets lost from his mom when he was little. Mowgli is considered a man cub. The wolves make him part of the pack. Baloo and Bagheera watch over Mowgli. Baloo the bear teaches Mowgli the laws of the jungle. I just saw the book and didnt ant to spend a lot of time looking for a book so i picked up this one. No specific reason why i chose it. Its a good book so far a lot of odd names though. Starts by talking about the jungle. Not hooked yet.

  2. I chose Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, because this is based off the movie of the same name and is one of my favorite books and movies of all time. I've had this book and the other 2 based off the first 2 movies for years. Without giving too much away for anyone who hasn't seen the movie or read the book, it starts off with Indy as a Boy Scout retrieving the Cross of Coronado from a group of looters. I'm already hooked into this book because this is basically a novelization of the movie for kids to read, and it's just as good as watching the movie. As far as the main plot goes, Indiana Jones is trying to find the Holy Grail, but he's also trying to find his father, who is the Grail expert, and he's mysteriously disappeared.

  3. I chose the book "IF You're Reading This". So far it is about a 16 year old boy Mike Wilson from Davenport Iowa that's lost his dad in the war when he was 7 years old. He has a mom and younger sister as well and they really struggle to make ends meet. Mike works on his neighbors farm to help with some of the bills. He is also supper smart in school and loves reading and loves Iowa football. I chose this book because I had a friend read it junior year and gave a book talk on it I caught my attention because of it taking place in eastern Iowa and it is about football and and as kid working on farm and seemed pretty relatable. I also read the back of it the book again before i picked it to read this year. I really didn't know what other book to read because i'm not the person who goes and just starts reading books I have to be handed a book and said here read this i'm giving you a grade on it then I will read it but this book sounds pretty interesting so i figured I would give it a try. My initial thoughts of this book are I am really enjoying it because it is easy to relate to and connect and know where Mike is coming from know how he feels trying to fit in. Yes I am hooked on it right from the start from him talking about his father being overseas and what he going threw and how he wants to play football and be like his father the author uses really good description and details.

  6. I choose the book Night because i wanted to read about the holocaust from the jew's point of view. The way the book started was a little strange by talking about this person named Moishe who noone payed attention to even though he knew that they would be captured by the Germans soon enough. I started to like the book more when Elie and his father were sent to a concentration camp with everyday being tougher than the last.

  9. I chose to read the book Night because it really interested me and I wanted to read more about the holocaust. This was my first choice for the second book. So far I am half way through the book and although there is some very interesting and shocking parts of the book, there is also parts that are boring and repetitive. Its hard to read about the same schedule every day and all of the different people that the author introduces. The start is kinda slow, it starts off as Elie's family's normal life in the village. Then slowly transitions through the period of the holocaust. I'm not really hooked but it can be interesting to read.

I chose this book because many of my friends have read it and recommended it, but i never got around to reading it.The book, basically being like a diary, jumps right into the thoughts of the author. He explains the complex way of his mind, and introduces what is to come in the book. What has me hooked is the way he writes exactly how he talks. I'm able to hear his voice in my head as I read. He's also very relatable as he talks about the struggles of life that nobody will, such as mental health.

  14. I chose the book Lost in the Jungle because I had watched the movie that is based off of the book. Local libraries do not have this book so it had to be ordered. So far in my book we have been introduced to 4 guys, Yossi, Marcus, Kevin and Karl. The first three guys are friends who meet Karl in Bolivia, who is looking for gold near a Indian village who have never been civilized. All four of them start their trek through the jungle. Going through different remote villages, meeting new people and tasting food such as lamb, monkey, and birds that they have never tried before. It really shows a different culture in South America, there are still slaves, huts for homes, hunting and gathering for food, relying on imports from larger villages. So far it has been a very good book, slow start but very descriptive and talks about areas in South America I have not heard about.

    ReplyDelete

    1. That book sounds interesting, hopefully the book is as good as the movie was. The culture aspect seems very different than what we have up here, it is a eye opener that they still have slaves in remote parts of south america. Also, how small are these villages, I can't imagine them more than a few hundred people.

  23. The book I am reading is called The Things They Carried. I chose this book because my sister read it back in high school and I thought it might be good. I wanted to take the time to read this book, because my sister recommended it and, normally, I don't have time for extra reading. My initial thoughts of the book were that it was a little slow moving. The author spends a great deal of time in the beginning of the book expressing how Vietnam took its toll on soldiers and when they returned to the U.S., people didn't want to hear about their emotional baggage. The author also went into detail the soldiers in his unit and the different items they carried with them. They often carried items that were sentimental or meaningful in some way. As the book progressed, I did become more hooked in the story, especially as I got to know more of the characters and their background.

  24. I choose to read the book Night for my last book in high school. I chose it because it sounded like an interesting book. I like reading about the holocaust because you do not hear to many people who made it through the camps and want to tell their story. I put this book at the top of my last list but if I did not get it I knew I was still going to read it as one of my books. The book starts off very slow because of the preface then the foreword. The book hooks you in from page three on. Elie was very good at describing and telling his readers what he truly thought and experienced at the concentration camps. His story is sometimes hard to read but it is very interesting to read about what the camps were like.

  26. I chose Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon because I bought the book awhile ago and had seen part of the movie. It really caught my interest because the story seemed very unique and different. I chose this moment as the perfect time to finally read it; I knew it would be easy for me to talk about. At first, I thought the layout of the book would bother me (it shows her notes as the pages she writes them on; it's kind of complicated), but I find that I really like it. It helps me feel as though I'm part of the story, which makes it more interesting to read. I'm loving the cute moments with her neighbor and am overall just really enjoying the book. I didn't think the start was bad, even though it was a lot of getting to know the character and her illness because it helps the reader understand the character and what she's going through. I'm a sucker for teen romance, so I'm definitely hooked and loving it.

Starr is a teenage black girl gowning up in a town full of drugs and crime. She is in the middle of crisis her best friend is shot in cold blood in front of her and she is the only eye witness besides the white cop. 30. The book I chose to read is Football Genius. I chose this book because it is about football and I really enjoy reading about football. The process I went through picking out this book was going to the library and picking up the first sports book I saw. Football Genius is about a 12 year old kid who can watch a couple plays of a football game and then call out what each play after that will be. His mom just started working for the Atlanta Falcons and Troy is trying to get the coaches to see what he can do so he can help them win a super bowl, because they are his favorite team. I instantly got hooked in this book. It makes it easy to keep on reading when you have a book that you really enjoy. The book is off to a great start and can't wait to see how it ends.

  31. The book I chose was Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow. I had purchased this book at a book store a few months ago because it had a very similar theme to many books that I like to read. What really peaked my interest of this book is the realism, it makes you almost feel the anxiety that the main character has. Right away the book jumped into the story, hooking you almost immediately. The book touches on a lot of mental health quite a lot which makes me happy, it is nice to actually read about the day to day issues to people have to suffer with. It helps further my understanding of these illnesses and the symptoms, as well as how to help people who are suffering.

  32. I chose the book The Hate U Give, I chose this book because Ms. Broadbent told me I would really enjoy the book and I trust Ms. B and she did not disappoint. I went through around five books until I narrowed down that I really wanted to read The Hate U Give. The novel starts with Starr having to witness first hand the second friend of hers get murdered in cold blood. The rest of the novel so far is about her coping her lose and trying to fight for justice. I am completely hooked on this book, when you start reading it is very hard to put down.

One of them is dyslexic but is very good at football so he stuggles really bad in school and need the other kid to stay in football so that his grades dont determine weather he plays or not. Hes the best on the team and has the starting quarterback spot. His best friend on the other hand is the smartest in the grade but not very good at football, so they help both each other to be successful in both subjects. 34. The book I chose is Crazy Rich Asians. I mostly picked this book because I saw the movie and I figured the book would be just as good. I was in luck that Mrs. Broadbent had this on her desk because the library didn't have it. So far the book is very good, it keeps me hooked on it. It starts out in 1986 when Nick Young was a little boy with his family trying to check into a hotel in London. The general manager wouldn't let them stay just because they are Chinese. Nick's aunt decides to buy the hotel from the original owners and kicks out the manager. This intro gave a nice preview to show just how rich these families are. After that it jumps into 2010 when Nick is trying to bring his Chinese-American girlfriend Rachel to Singapore to meet his family.

  36. The book I am reading is called, Rangers Apprentice: The Ruins of Gorlan. This book is based in a fictional olden day world where people still lived in kingdoms and castles. The main character of the book is Will, a young boy who, along with his friends, are now old enough to go through a sort of selection process to see where they will work for the rest of their lives. They do have input on what they would like to do but It's not always gonna be what you get. In Will's case, he wanted to go to Battleschool but the Battlemaster rejected him because he had too small a stature and he wasn't strong enough. So far I am enjoying the book. Will's friends all got to go where they wanted but Will did redeem himself by passing Halt's test that he did not even know he was taking. He inevitably became, The Rangers Apprentice. I thought it was nice that Halt gave will a chance when none others would accept him. Throughout the book, Halt opens himself up to will, so much so that they become rather close. I would definitely recommend this book the anyone who enjoys action adventure books or anyone who is just looking for a good read.

  37. the book i choose is I Had Seen Castles. the first thing that attracted me to the book was the length of the book. its small enough to where i can finish it in time without worrying and another thing that attracted me to the book was the back of the book, it was funny and i wanted to read more. the book is told from a narrators perspective and he talks about his time joining the army in 1942 and about his life that he had before and after the war. it starts out with him living in Pittsburgh and pearl harbor was just bombed. he has a kind of comedic way of telling his story, its a weird way that he writes it almost reminds me of how the author of staying fat for shara byrnes writes. it is a very good book so far and i am definitely hooked on it. i recommend reading this book.

  38. I choose the book Stotan by Chris Crutcher. It is about a group of boys who are on the high school swim team. The go through a tough week of swimming called Stotan week. The hard week of swimming along with hardships and problems in their own lives causes a drama filled book and keeps me hooked the whole time. I choose this book because i did not get to read it earlier in the school year. I relate to it a lot because i also swim and just in the first few chapters, i related to just about everything they have said or done so far. The book starts out by introducing all the characters and explaining how all of them got into swimming. Then it explains the hard lives of some of the characters and that kept me hooked. Stotan week is an optional week of swimming and the boys are scared to sign up. They sigh up eventually but still do not know what is in store for them. They try researching what a Stotan is and figure out its a cross between Stoic and a Spartan but that is all they know. It is the night before Stotan week and they are all nervous for what is to come, another reason why i am currently hooked on the book. I really like this book so far because i relate to it in so many ways. I hope it gets better as i keep reading.

  39. The book i am reading is night by Elie Wiesel. this book is based on a true story and is when world war two was going on and when hilter had concentration camps to have slaves. the process that i went through to find this book was easy i did not get to read it last time so i read the book this time around. i chose this book because i have seen most of the world war two movies and wanted to see if they line up to what is happening to Elie wiesel. my initial thought was wow these people are treated very badly and how easy they got killed for stepping out of line. the book starts with life being normal then they get put into cattle cars and shipped to auschwitz and gets separated from everyone except for his father. and they lay low until they are the last group of people and get shipped out again to somewhere else. i am hooked because i want to know what happens next in the book.

  42. I am reading the book "Les Miserables" . It takes place in 19th century France, and it really is about the journey of a galley slave, and all of the adversity he faces throughout his journey. I came across this book when i was browsing the books in the library. Typically I'd read within the fantasy or sci-fi genre, but I decided that I wanted to go outside of my comfort zone, and read a book that is outside my realm. The book starts off pretty slow, but it simply introduces a character (which is a bishop), and the author goes in length how much of a charitable, commendable, and respected person he is. Although the book is pretty slow, I still find it quite interesting, and it has a lot of historical context, which I value in a book.

I chose to read funny how things change and i chose to read this book because i started reading it at the beginning of the tri before we got our first class book. i didn't want to read 2 books at once and get confused to i just decided to read it now. i didn't really have a process to picking this book besides i found it on the bookshelf in the room and it sounded interesting. so far my book is pretty interesting and i feel its just going to get better throughout the book. the book started off with this couple planning on moving in together during college and the boy doesn't want to but doesn't know how to tell his girlfriend no, after a day he meets this new girl in town and starts to catch feelings for her but knows its wrong.

  46. I chose the book The Portrait of a Lady. I picked it because the back sounded very interesting when I read it. My initial thoughts were it kind of took a bit to start get interesting. It started off with pretty much a lot of back ground information but that is also a good thing because this was information that was important to know because other wise it wouldn`t make sense. But as soon as the first four chapters got through then things really picked up.

  47. i chose the book Shooting The Moon. its about a girl who grew up loving the military. She thinks it is more like a game other then actual war. her dad is a very high rank Colonel. Jamie's brother is shipped off to Vietnam at the beginning of the book and a few chapters in, she gets her first letter from him. when she opens it up she finds undeveloped film from Vietnam. so far i enjoy the book and i think the pictures that her brother sent home are going to show her what real war is.

  48. I chose the book I have lived for a thousand years by Livia Bitton--Jackson. I chose this book because I already learn about what the guys went through for the holocaust but not the woman part of it yet, so that is why I chose this book. My process to chose this book was to think about what book I really enjoyed reading this term and I thought to myself, that I was more into Night and I wanted to read about the women side of the story. So far in my book it is boring. All it talks about is the life she is living in and how big her house is. On thing I read about is that during Hitlers reoccurring radio broadcasting Hitler side to everyone "Instead of using a soccer ball for soccer, lets start using Jew's head as the soccer ball" and i just thought to myself that it was just disgusting. I think it will be really interesting on how they will be treated.

  49. the book I choose was black and white and the reason that I choose this book is because i wanted to see the difficulties that African Americans went through with athletics and i think that they wanted to compete at there highest standards but the coaches were very racist and holding the potential of the players back and i am just curious on why they did this to them and
I wanted to see the views from the African Americans side.

  50. I am reading the book Boy Erased. The reason I chose this book is because I want to learn more about conversion therapy. I chose this book by looking through my books that I have not read yet. When I first started reading this book I was intrigued by all the main character had to go through. Garrard chose to go to Love in Action (the therapy program) by himself, something I would never be able to do. One point that stuck out to me is when they had a funeral for someone who was not even dead. This person was accepting himself and tried to get out of the program but his instructor made him stay by planning out his funeral and making the patient lay in the casket with his family around him.
